Captain Morgan lived in the 17th century and was born into a wealthy Welsh family. He gave up a life of safe prosperity for the thrilling, adventurous world of piracy. He conquered much of the Caribbean, plundering enough Spanish galleons and treasure-laden ships to be appointed Governor of Jamaica by the British Crown. From then on, the Captain began crafting his bold and essential drink on the island of Jamaica.
Captain Morgan rum has been produced since 1680, based on the Captain’s original recipe. Its standout variant, Spiced Gold, was first introduced in the United States in 1983.
