St. Hubertus is a classic Hungarian herbal liqueur named after the patron saint of hunters, whose secret, traditional recipe has been passed down from generation to generation since 1901.
With its unique, natural flavor, it has been offering reliable quality to lovers of spiced drinks for over 100 years.
Its true character comes from carefully selected herbs and the aging of extracts in oak barrels, which, blended with the legend of St. Hubertus, tell stories of the past, the wonders of nature, and the important values in life.
The Legend
ST. HUBERTUS AND THE DEER
Hubertus, born into a French noble family, lost his wife at a young age during childbirth. After this tragic event, he withdrew from the world and devoted himself entirely to hunting. On Good Friday, while hunting in the forest, a deer suddenly appeared before him, and between its antlers, there was a cross. At that moment, a voice echoed: “Hubertus, unless you change your life and repent, you will soon descend to hell!” “What must I do?” he asked. “Go and find Lambert, from now on he will guide you!”
At that time, St. Lambert was the Bishop of Maastricht, so Hubertus set off in that direction. After renouncing his wealth and noble title, he became a disciple of St. Lambert. Following St. Lambert's death, Hubertus, prompted by a vision, had the bishop's remains transported from Maastricht to Liège in 720. The next year, they founded a cathedral in the same city, and the site became the catalyst for the city’s immense growth. Thus, St. Hubertus became the founder and first bishop of Liège.
St. Hubertus remains the patron saint of hunters and foresters. The ethical rules of hunting, practiced since the Middle Ages, are also derived from him, such as the respect for game and the compassion shown toward it. As such, his figure is deeply connected to nature, much like the liqueur bearing his name.
The St. Hubertus liqueur logo also alludes to this legend. It depicts a deer’s head with a shining cross between its antlers.
Classic Hungarian Herbal Liqueur
Since 1901, St. Hubertus has been crafted according to a traditional, secret recipe, making it a beloved domestic herbal liqueur. The original flavor profile of St. Hubertus is defined by the fresh, Mediterranean zest of orange, the healing herbs from forests and meadows, and fragrant spices.
The herbal extract that forms the base of Hubertus is perfected through aging in oak barrels, enhancing its richness. It is made exclusively from natural ingredients.
With Forest Berries and Herbs
A refined version of the original St. Hubertus recipe, known since 1901. This variation is crafted using extracts from forest berries (elderberry, blackberry, juniper) and forest herbs (sage, fragrant thyme).
