Lanson is one of the oldest Champagne houses, founded in 1760 by the Delamotte family in Reims. The estate was acquired by the Lanson dynasty in 1850. Jean-Baptiste Lanson, an ambitious winemaker, not only gave his name to the house but also created its distinctive logo. The Champagne label is adorned with the Maltese Cross, as Jean-Baptiste Lanson was himself a Knight of the Order of Malta. To this day, the family actively participates in the daily life of the order.
The Black Label Brut owes its iconic name to Victor Lanson, who named it in 1937 as both a symbol of openness to the world and a tribute to the British Royal Family. The Lanson house has been the official Champagne supplier to Queen Elizabeth II’s court and a royal warrant holder since 1900. This strong British connection is still present today, with Lanson proudly serving as the official Champagne sponsor of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships for over four decades.
The grapes are sourced exclusively from 100% Grand Cru-rated vineyards, and the Champagne is crafted from three noble grape varieties. Pinot Noir provides body and structure, Pinot Meunier adds roundness and fruitiness, while Chardonnay brings finesse, lightness, and elegance. Using the Méthode Traditionnelle, the base wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle, followed by several years of aging. After disgorgement (removal of the lees), the Champagne is sealed and sold in the very same bottle.
Lanson Black Label Brut Champagne
The Black Label Brut is based on the finest Crus of Champagne and boasts unmatched fruitiness and freshness, thanks to the original Champagne winemaking method. The Lanson Black Label Brut is the house's non-vintage Champagne. The black label is once again a tribute to the refinement of British aristocracy. Pinot Noir makes up at least 50% of the blend, followed by 30% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier. The dosage is 8g/liter. This is a classic, yeasty, mineral, and austerely elegant Champagne.
Poured into the glass, it presents a pale yellow straw color. On the nose, earth notes are complemented by white flowers, grapefruit, and ripe apple. The Lanson style’s characteristic vitality, freshness, and balanced elegance are evident. It is an excellent choice to pair with brie cheese or can also be a worthy companion to fish and other seafood dishes.
Lanson Rosé Label Brut Champagne
One of the finest Rosé Champagnes, and no wonder, as Lanson was the first house to experiment with the production of Rosé Champagne. Its rosy, red berry fruit aroma is intoxicating, and its creamy, fruity flavors are utterly seductive.
The blend consists of 53% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay, and 15% Pinot Meunier, with nearly 30% of the selected wines in the mix. The dosage is 8g/liter.
Serving Suggestion: Best served chilled at 8-10°C as an aperitif, or paired with fish and lightly spiced poultry dishes.
Lanson Gold Label Champagne
The Gold Label is only produced in the finest vintages, with the first vintage dating back to 1904. It is a classic, elegant, biscuit-flavored Champagne, embodying refined French elegance.
The cuvée is composed of 47% Chardonnay from Grands Crus in Avize, Mesnil sur Oger, and Premier Cru in Trépail, and 53% Pinot Noir from Grands Crus in Verzenay and Bouzy. The dosage is 8g/liter.
Lanson Clos Champagne
The pinnacle of the selection: a single-vineyard Champagne from Clos Lanson in Reims. The grapes ripen in a centuries-old walled vineyard, where only Chardonnay is grown for this cuvée. Timeless, natural, and mature flavors are complemented by a notable mineral quality and freshness, making it one of the few single-vineyard Champagnes. Only just over 7,000 bottles have been produced.
It is aged in oak barrels for 7 years, followed by an additional 2 years in the bottle. The dosage is 3g/liter, making it a Brut Nature.
