Balatonfüred-Csopak
Located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, between Zánka and Balatonalmádi, the Balatonfüred-Csopak Wine Region includes the towns of Balatonfüred and Csopak, after which it is named, as well as Lovas, Felsőörs, Szentantalfa, and Balatonszőlős — all of which are considered outstanding wine-producing villages of the area. In 1997, the region was expanded to include the vineyards of Mencshely and Tihany.
Geographically, the region is relatively uniform, with subsoils composed mostly of schist and volcanic rocks. The most commonly grown grape varieties include Olaszrizling (Welschriesling), Rajnai Rizling (Riesling), Rizlingszilváni (Müller-Thurgau), and Tramini (Gewürztraminer). In recent years, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc have also been introduced.
One of the region’s specialties is its rosé wines, primarily produced from Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Zweigelt, and Merlot grapes. The wine region also produces a modest quantity of red wines, mostly originating from the Tihany Peninsula.
